Biosolids
Biosolids are the treated residues generated during the processing of domestic sewage at a wastewater treatment facility. They may include domestic septage and non-hazardous commercial and industrial wastes that are processed during the treatment process. After they are treated and processed, these nutrient-rich organic materials are recycled and applied as fertilizer to improve and maintain productive soils and stimulate plant growth. Biosolids are carefully treated and monitored and must be used and applied in accordance with regulatory requirements from the Environmental Protection Agency, the Colorado Department of Public Health and Environment and NCHD.
